In March 2009, former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire created the above work of art and said “I’d rather live my life than attempt to rehash it. Even if [Stone Roses vocalist] Ian [Brown] and I were still double dating as we did in our teens then the prospect of a reunion wouldn’t interest me at all.” On the day he released it I posted it to my Tumblr and added:
“John Squire kills the rumours of a Stone Roses reunion tour. I shed a guilty tear, knowing that I’d love to see them live, but accept that they’d almost certainly be shit.”
Today the Stone Roses - one of my favourite bands when I was about 16 - announced their reunion, and my thoughts have not changed one bit.

Oasis, Knebworth, 1996. Britpop’s zenith, 150,000 people in a field singing along to Champagne Supernova. John Squire from the Stone Roses making a guest appearance and us not realising because we were too far back (even though when we looked at an overhead photo of the concert afterwards we were actually within the closest 25% of the people to the stage).
Support acts: Manic Street Preachers, The Charlatans (UK), Kula Shaker, Dreadzone. Such heights. Such great heights.
